OKLAHOMA PARENTAL CHOICE TAX CREDIT

Oklahoma

How to Enroll Using Oklahoma Homeschool Tax Credit

Step 1: Confirm Eligibility

To qualify for the homeschool tax credit:

  • The student must be homeschooled and an Oklahoma resident.
  • The student must be eligible to enroll in a public school in Oklahoma.
  • The parent must be an Oklahoma taxpayer.

The credit covers qualified educational expenses paid during the tax year.

Step 2: Register and Pay for Your Program

Register for your selected program on our website and complete payment.

Because this is a tax credit (not an ESA), families pay the program cost directly.

Step 3: Keep Your Invoice and Proof of Payment

Save your invoice and receipt for your records. Your documentation should include:

  • Student name
  • Program name or description
  • Provider name
  • Date paid
  • Amount paid

This documentation will be required when claiming the credit.

Step 4: Claim the Credit When Filing Taxes

When filing your Oklahoma income tax return:

  1. Complete Form 591-D (Parental Choice Tax Credit for Qualified Homeschool Expenses) — one form per student.
  2. Include your receipts or invoices.
  3. Submit the form with your Oklahoma tax return.

Form 591-D cannot be submitted by itself.

Step 5: Receive Your Tax Credit

If approved, the Oklahoma Tax Commission will issue a refundable tax credit of up to $1,000 per student, typically as part of your Oklahoma state tax refund.

For more information and application details, visit the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit resources page.
