Young Authors Speak:
Why We Love Written Out Loud
Witness the magic of our program through the eyes of our biggest fans: our storytellers.

"It’s a very supportive community and you might have goals of becoming a writer, but Written Out Loud actually helps you achieve them. It really helps you learn to love writing more because you have all these like great friends that you make, and like this community of people who actually enjoy writing along with you."

"Sometimes when you write stories, you have to write about a specific topic that other people tell you to do. At Written Out Loud you can write about whatever you want to. And the best thing is that other people’s ideas–you can combine your idea with to make it an even better idea."

What Parents are Saying
-
"The most impressive part for me is the collective spirit and collaborative nature of the WOL structure. Unlike most youth writing programs which are built around individual competition and elimination of the rest the writers, WOL has adopted and applied the true spirit of team work: the storytellers are expected and encouraged to hear and incorporate each others' vision in one collaborative story. This makes the experience wholesome and quite rewarding in a human way."

"Just over a week ago, I sat and listened to my daughter, Saramarie, finish her 3rd Written Out Loud class. I can not begin to adequately describe how magical these classes are. She finds teachers who enthusiastically teach all the elements of good story writing in ways that build on student ideas and enthusiasm rather than preaching boring concepts that students listen to but may or may not apply to their own writing. They do this all while building a cohesive community of writers. Now, even outside of class, I hear her using the terms and concepts she has learned in her WOL classes. The look on Saramarie’s face when she opened the package with each book is beyond description. Her pride and excitement seeing her name on a published book is only paled in comparison to her pride in telling people she is a published author and showing them the books."
